Review:Forgive my Fins by: Tera Lynn Childs

Synopsis (Goodreads.com) (Add to Goodreads)
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush. Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life. When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily-ever-after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.
My Quick Review: First off, it took me a really long time before I finally got to read this!
So, I was super stoked to get it. As soon as I started reading I really loved the main character Lily. She seemed to me your typical teenager except for the fact she is a half mermaid. She was a very fun loving character for me and I loved all her little under the sea references she made. Some parts in the story really did make me think this was more a pre-teen kind of story but I still kept on reading because I loved the characters so much they are really what made the book for me. Quince the neighbor next door turned love interest really was by far my favorite character. He had a certain sarcasm about him that made the story a lot more enjoyable-that and he's love for Lily even when she was so blind to it. Over all a very cute book and being my first mermaid book I really enjoyed it.

Back from the dead!

Well here I am again back from the dead. Work during this past holiday season proved to take over my life and left my blogger all so very lonely. Thankfully all is quite again in my world so here is a recap of what you've missed in my life and of the books I've read and started reading.

My Life:
Not much has changed except the fact that I got a raise at work which is why it was so hectic.

 Books: Read
Forgive My Fins (Fins, #1)      Fins Are Forever (Fins, #2)
*Both I really enjoyed!! Review will be coming very soon!!

Books I'm into now:
Dark Territory (The Tracks, #1)     Nightshade
*Both I'm kind of getting into slowly. After months of non-stop work the drive to read is hard right now but I know it will be coming back soon it always does once life gets back to normal.

So there you go that's what you've missed in a nut-shell. So how has everyone else been anything exciting you'd like to tell me about. I'd love to hear from you.

Interview with Author Brodi Ashton of Everneath

1. First off the cover is breath taking did you have a hand in creating it?I think the cover is breathtaking because I had absolutely no hand in creating it. I am not good at art!

2. So why are you so drawn to Greek mythology?I grew up with a mother who would read me Greek Myths at bedtime. The myths were ingrained in me from a very early age. Even though I didn't start out with the intention of retelling a Greek myth, I couldn't help using mythology to explain what happened to a very broken girl.

3. So what’s with the Dead Elvises? The Dead Elvises are a rock band made up of immortals. The lead guitar, Cole, is the boy who entices my main character, Nikki, to the Underworld in the first place.

4. Is your lead character Nikki inspired by anyone you actually know?Nikki was lightly inspired by a girl I went to school with. She went through some very hard times, and it was difficult for her to recover. The first scene in the book shows a girl who has been missing for a long time returning to her high school, and all the difficulties of rumors and questions that surround her. That being said, it is about a parallel universe called the EVERNEATH, so the similarities to real life end there. :)

5. There have been a lot of Greek mythology based movies lately which actor do you think has played the best Zeus?Oh man, I think I need to go to more movies. If I could pick an actor to play Zeus... um... Matt Damon? Because I generally like anything he does.

6. What were some of your favorite authors growing up and did they influence you in writing Everneath?I loved Madeline L'engle's A WRINKLE IN TIME. She taught me that a book about other worlds, and time/space travel, is still, at its heart, a story about real life.

7. I heard you got to go to the SCBWI conference how was it. Did you meet
any authors you've been a big fan of?
I got to meet THE Judy Blume! That was absolutely insane. I also got to hear Libba Bray (Great and Terrible Beauty) talk about the pain she went through trying to write the third book in her series. It was so comforting to hear that even great authors go through periods of failure. So human!

8. Did you use any music to inspire your writing? If so what are some of the songs-artist?
I have a playlist for Everneath, which includes Death Cab for Cutie (I'll Follow you into the Dark) the Swell Season (Falling Slowly), Bon Jovi (You Wanna Make a Memory) and a bunch of others. Even Shakira (Hips Don't Lie).

9. What would you say makes your book unique?I like that neither the main character, or the love interest, have supernatural powers. I think that's unique in a paranormal stories. Also, the mythology in this story is not very literal. There is no Hades, or other Gods of Olympus, or even an actual Underworld with dead people. The magic in this book is more realistic, and something that I could imagine existing in the world we all know.

10. And last but not least do you have a message for your eagerly awaiting fans?Just that I'm so grateful to anyone who would take the time and money to read something I've written. It blows me away, every day. The first thing I want to say to fans is always THANK YOU.

Author Interview with Jennifer L. Armentrout of Half -Blood

Today we have Author Jennifer L. Armentrot with us, Author of Half-Blood!! Check out My review

1.When did you first get the idea for Half-Blood?
I started writing Half-Blood in 2008 and I the first thing I knew was that I wanted a really strong heroine who operated on her own rules. So Alex came first and then I really wanted to incorporate Greek mythology into the story. I'd always been fascinated with demigods and the different myths. I knew I wanted to do something with that, and that is when I came up with the idea of pure-bloods (children of two demigods) and half-bloods (a child of a demigod and mortal).

2.First off the cover is breath taking did you have a hand in creating it?
Thank you! The awesome team at SHP created the cover, so all the glory goes to them.

3.Is your lead character Alexandria inspired by anyone you actually know?
Oh goodness no. I think if anyone in real life was like Alex, they'd probably be in jail or something.

4.Best advice you've received on writing?
Read as much as humanly possible and never give up. I know you hear that all the time, but it's the truth.

5.If you had to be something other then a writer what would you be?
Hmm ... a zombie theorist?
6. What were some of your favorite authors growing up and did they influence you in writing Half-Blood?
Fav authors growing up were LJ Smith, Christoper Pike, RL Stine and a slew of historical romance writers. All of the authors were an inspiration to me. I wanted to be in their position one day, being able to share my stories with readers.

7. Got any good advice for young writers?
Practice makes perfect. The more you write, the better you'll get. Set aside time each to write, even if it's not for a story. Get in the practice of doing it.

8. How long did it take you to write Half-Blood?
I went through several drafts. I started in 2008, finished first draft then. Shelved it for a while, picked it back up in 2009 and did some revisions. The first draft probably took me 3 months, but it was around 2 years before it was ready for submission.

9. If your book was turned into a movie who would you like to play in the lead parts?
Eek. That's a hard question. It's so hard for me to find actors to play the parts, but I'd hope they'd stick true to the characters, especially Alex and not have a stick thin actress play her. That's would be my only input.

10.Last but not least - Are you a nervous wreck about your release, What has been the most overwhelming part of it all?
Oh geez, yes! Some days it doesn't seem real. Other days I want to vomit when I think about it being released to the public. It's scary and awesome all at the same time. Each time I see an early review, there's a mixture of excitement and terror. But I wouldn't trade it in for anything!

Thank you for having me!

Birthday Giveaway & Author Interview with E.J.Stevens of "The Spirit Guide Series"

*Today we have a great character interview with author E.J. Stevens, Plus since today is my birthday YAY!! You get to enter in a chance to win some awesome swag from E. J. and an ebook of "Legend of Witchrot Rd." Are you excited?  I know I am!!! So here we go...

1. So what do y’all enjoy doing when you're not helping the spirits of the dead?
Yuki: No spirits of the dead? That would totally rock! Ghosts can be super smelly. It's so gross. When I'm not being haunted, I try to make the most of it by spending time with my friends or having a date night with Cal.

Cal: I enjoy attending seminars and workshops on a variety of New Age topics, but I have a lot of new responsibilities...and an amazing girlfriend.

Yuki: *blush*

Cal: Date nights with Yuki are definitely high on my list. I also try to schedule time to meditate and contemplate life. I think it's important to find a balance between the things we must do and the things we want to do.

Simon: You think too much. *shaking head* Get the girl. There are times for thinking and times for acting. Right, love? *leering at Yuki* Of course, if you get lonely there are other fish in the sea...and wolves in the forest. *winking*

Yuki: Watch it, Old Man.

Emma: That is so typical. It doesn't matter if we're helping spirits of the dead or not. Simon is always chasing girls.

Simon: I don't have to chase them. They come to me. No woman can resist my devastating good looks and charm.

Emma: *rolls eyes* Riiiiight. Well, when I'm not helping Yuki do research on the spirits haunting her, I focus  on my veterinary studies. I'm also active in local animal rights protests. When I'm busy, I participate in letter writing campaigns and sign petitions, but there is nothing like the thrill of a good march on the capital building. Fight bee oppression!

2. So Cal you’re the pack leader how to you stay calm under such stressful situations?
I have been practicing yoga and meditation for years, but I'm also learning a lot from Simon. Being Simon's student is challenging, but his methods produce results. He's been teaching me how to focus my mind and spirit to control my emotions...and my wolf spirit. It also helps that I'm dating someone who can find the silver lining in every cloud and have a great friend who's moral compass always points to true North. In the words of Ghandi, "Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well." With the guidance of those with wisdom and the support of my friends, I can face anything.

3. Yuki, you smell dead people what’s the smelliest ghost spirit so far?
Yuki: Ugh. There are so many. Vinegar Dude ruined my appetite for days. I still can't eat pickles. They totally make me gag. Let's see...oh yeah! The smelliest ghost had a smell impression that combined seaweed  and a hint of dead fish. Now that was an interesting mystery...

4. So what do you really think of this Legend of Witchtrot Road?
Yuki: It's creepy...and kind of sad.

Emma: I don't want to talk about it. I still have nightmares...

Simon: You do? You never told me that.

Cal: I think we all have strong feelings about that place and the things that happened there.

5. So Simon how old are you really, and what’s with this playboy attitude?
Simon: *sigh* See what you started? *looking at Yuki*

Yuki: What? You're old.

Simon: I am not old. I'm in my prime.

Yuki: Whatever, old man.

Simon: See what I have to put up with?

Emma: Oh, like you're the one who has to put up with us. Right.

Cal: *laughing*

Simon: It's not funny. Your girlfriend makes it sound like I'm geriatric. Twenty-six is not old.

Yuki: *cough* Twenty-seven

Simon: *narrowing eyes* As I was saying, I am not old and I can't help it if women find me irresistible.

Emma: Oh puh-lease! You are so full of yourself.

Author Interview with Leigh Fallon of "Carrier of the Mark"

1. I heard you grew up in Dublin, Ireland what was it like growing up there. Do they have any cool fairy tales or folk lore that you use to hear about as a kid?
Yes I grew up in Dublin, Ireland. It was great growing up there. I lived in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, about half an hour outside of Dublin City. It was such a beautiful place to grow up. We were surrounded by forests lakes and beautiful bog lands called the Feather Beds. I went to a convent school where we all had to wear burgundy uniforms, complete with stripy ties and gabardines. As for fairy tales, in Ireland everywhere has a tale, or a creepy story attached. There was this ruin a couple of miles from my house called The Hell Fire Club. It sits right at the very tip of one of the mountains. It is said that the Devil appeared there one night and burned the place to the ground. To this day, nothing grows within 100 meters of it and there's always a smell of burning in the air. Creepy!

2. Is your lead character Megan inspired by anyone you actually know?
Megan isn't based on any one person. She developed as her own character, but certain elements would be ones I'd recognize in myself and lots of other people. I guess you could say she's a mishmash of real and imagined.

3. I heard you got to go to the SCBWI conference how was it. Did you  meet any authors you've been a big fan of?
I was at SCBWI LA this year. It was great fun. I met so many fantastic authors. I was lucky enough to have lunch with Josephine Angelini (Star crossed), Bree Despain (The Dark Devine), Brodi Ashton (Everneath), Lindsey Leavitt (Princess For Hire), Lani Woodland (Intrinsical), Alexandra Monir (Timeless), and Gretchen McNeil (Possess). They are all fantastic and super nice. I also had the pleasure of hearing Judy Blume talk. OMG! Judy Blume is one of my all-time favorites.

4. When did you first get the idea for Carrier of the Mark?
I first got the idea of Carrier of the Mark when I was sitting in my car outside of my daughter's ballet school in Kinsale, the town where Carrier is set. My babies (I have twin boys) were screaming in the back of the car and I was gazing out of the window on the a gloomy rainy day and the story sort of popped into my mind. Kinsale is a beautiful town, even in the rain, the marina and amazing scenery is a wealth of inspiration.

5. Best advice you've received on writing?
The best advice I've received was from my agent, Tina Wexler. She always tells me to forget about trends, or what you think people want, writing what you are most passionate about and what excites you. I
now live by that rule.

6.What is the best tip for getting out of a writing funk?
Best tip for getting out of a funk? Put on some really fantastic music, crank up the volume and let it blow your mind. Some of my best inspiration comes from allowing music take my imagination to places I
never dared dream of.

7. Why write YA?
Honestly, I never decided to write YA. When Carrier of the Mark popped into my brain, Megan, my MC, was a seventeen year old girl, so I fell into YA. Carrier led me to it. Now that I'm here, I'm loving it. It's a genre so full of excitement and hope. The reader's minds are so open to the magic of possibilities, to the idea that anything is possible. I think that's why so many adults read YA today. It's a portal for adults to go back to the time they still believed in those possibilities, to a world where the restrictions of age and
responsibility don't apply.

8. If you had to be something other then a writer what would you be?
Oh gosh, I've already had so many other jobs. I've been a Bank Clerk, PA, mortgage restructurer, and a treasury supervisor. I've gone from investing corporate America's millions writing books. I don't think I could go back. But if you forced me to pick something? umm maybe I'd open my own little coffee shop, serving cute little cupcakes and cake. Yeah, I like the sound of that.

 9. Most overwhelming thing about being a writer?
The most overwhelming thing about being a writer? I'd have to say the pressure of public opinion. I scour through all my reviews, desperate to know what people think. I read every review and take everything said to heart. All my author friends tell me not to, that it erodes your confidence, but I can't help myself. Most reviews are amazing and encouraging, but it only takes one negative remark to have you wanting to rip your current manuscript to shreds and start again. But that feeling passes. I think it makes us stronger.

10. Have a message for your fans?
My message to my fans? Oh, I have fans? Really? *jumps up and down with excitement* *waves* I love you all. Thank you so much for supporting me and my book. I hope you all enjoy reading Carrier of the Mark as much as I enjoyed writing it. Oh and to anyone who has pre-ordered Carrier already *smooches* I truly love you. I'm running a giveaway very soon for anyone who has pre-ordered Carrier or anyone who buys it between now and the release date. There will be fantastic and significant prizes to be won. You do not want to miss this!! Details to come soon. Stay posted.

Thanks so much Leigh Fallon, I loved all your answers!! Especially about the creepy folk lore in the area where you grew up definitely spooky.

Synopsis: All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. But one faery in particular refuses to leave her alone. Keenan the Summer King is convinced beyond all reasoning that Aislinn is the queen he has been seeking for nine centuries. What's a 21st-century girl to do when she's stalked by a suitor nobody else can see? A debut fantasy romance for the ages; superlative summer read.

Review: Half-Blood by:Jennifer L. Armentrout

(Add to Goodreads)
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1: Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review:  First I really wasn't sure what I was expecting from this one. I read the synopsis when I requested the ARC and I some what thought of Percy Jackson and the lighting thief which is a little more middle grade then this but I felt like it would be kind of the same theme line. I was totally off because this one contains a lot more action and I would definitely not let my 6 year old watch this if it ever turned into a movie. Alex the main character is a very strong willed girl that doesn't listen to the rules very well and has had to survive on her own since her mother died from a daimon attack. When she is brought back to her school by Aiden a very hot sentinel she ends up having to make up for the time lost and gets to train with him. Aiden is guy who completely is all work no play sticks by the rules for the most part..all except for one of course. Alex and Aiden begin to have feelings for each other which is completely against the rules considering he is a pure and she is a half-blood. Knowing this made me love the parts where these to started to give into temptation. On top of Aiden the author throws in Seth into the mix who I actually really enjoyed and hope I get to see more of him in the next one. Seth is a half-blood but he has the power as they say to kill the gods. He is pretty bad*** plus he is cocky too. I always did love the good guys with the bad guy streak. Seth becomes a big wrench in everything for Alex I won't explain in detail but its pretty off the wall wasn't expecting it that's for sure.  I really hated the way half-bloods were treated in this book sometimes which really makes you think about life in general and how we treat people that are different than us. I believe that is something the author intently played out which was perfect!!There is a lot more that goes on with more daimon attacks and more danger for Alex. Also someone from her past is part of her danger and it really makes the ending perfect. Overall I really enjoyed Half-blood it's packed full of action, young love, and a half-blood who never holds back. As they say if you want something done you do it yourself!
